I made two of my complications go be the current temperature and current weather conditions. So I usually use dark sky as my weather app.
The update rate is about every 10-20 minutes, but Apple can still delay it to conserve battery. Sometimes here are just - - where the temp and condition are supposed to be. Thankfully, CARROT is an exception to this, as I usually see the same values reflected live in the Dock that I see on the Complication.
