I do this with my students from 1st grade through 5th grade (we have 50 minute classes). The following list is representative of the variety of activities available to Sandusky Elementary students.
Today I want to share with you my daily warm-up and stretching routine that I use at the beginning of class with my students.
Use the following activities to gradually slow down movement and provide a period of relaxation. Cool-down activities focus on slow movements and stretching, allowing the heart rate to return to normal after vigorous activity. Stretching is an important part of physical activity, and students should learn proper techniques. Other ideas include ball dribbling, hula hooping, balancing bean bags, dancing, jumping on bubble wrap, stair climbing, shooting hoops or juggling.
Students play a game to increase physical activity. Pick one student to start as the thrower, and have the other students stand in a group about 20 to 30 yards away from the thrower.
