This is the fourth launch of Cygnus under the CRS-2 contract. With the Cygnus now in orbit, it is set to arrive at and berth with the ISS early Nov. 19, one day after the docking of a Progress cargo spacecraft launched by Russia Nov. 16.
Friday's launch marks the second dual-Cygnus flight for Northrop Grumman. The Cygnus spacecraft arrived at the space station Feb. 18, three days after launching aboard an Antares rocket from Wallops Island, Virginia. Northrop Grumman launched the Cygnus NG-12 vehicle in early November while an even earlier vehicle, NG-11, was still in orbit.
The NG-13 Cygnus resupply vehicle has been released from the grip of the Space Station Remote Manipulator System (SSRMS) to begin its EOM (End Of Mission) events. The Cygnus spacecraft is an expendable American cargo spacecraft developed by Orbital Sciences Corporation and now built and launched by Northrop Grumman Space Systems as part of NASA's Commercial Resupply Services (CRS) program. Cygnus NG-15, previously known as CRS OA-15, is the fifteenth (15) planned flight of the Northrop Grumman robotic resupply spacecraft Cygnus and its fourteenth (14) flight to the International Space Station under the Commercial Resupply Services contract with NASA.The mission is planned to launch in February 2021.
